Young Carers Awareness Day

xx_01 Young carers awareness day 2.jpg

January 30th is a time to raise awareness of the challenges faced by young carers and campaign for greater support.

A young carer is a person aged between 5 and 25, who provides care and support in some way for someone else. The person they provide care for is often a parent, or a relative who is physically or mentally ill, frail and elderly, disabled or misuses alcohol or substances. Young carers could also be supporting and caring for a brother or sister.

Amongst the young carer’s many daily challenges, is that of finding time for themselves for enjoyment and spending stress-free, quality time with their family and friends.

Vulture Awareness Day at S.O.S.

Vulture-Awareness-Day-2019.gif

Vultures are an ecologically vital group of birds that face a range of threats in many areas that they occur. Populations of many species are under pressure and some species are facing extinction.

The International Vulture Awareness Day has grown from Vulture Awareness Days run by the Birds of Prey Programme of the Endangered Wildlife Trust in South Africa and the Hawk Conservancy Trust in England, who decided to work together and expand the initiative into an international event.

We too are passionate about these intriguing birds and the need for the conservation of vultures by highlighting the important work being carried out by the world’s vulture conservationists on this special day.

So come along and meet our hooded vultures and turkey vultures as we explain all about them as they demonstrate their wonderful character in our flying demonstrations on the day.

EXTRA! Download some free children’s games and craft activities all about Vultures including the Clean-Up Crew, a Vulture Map, Join-the-Dots, Word Search, Vulture Maze, Word Scramble and Hooded & Turkey Vulture Colouring pages, courtesy of the guys at Birdorable.com
